Options for Sexual Health

At Options for Sexual Health (Options) we care about the healthy sexuality of all. We currently offer services in British Columbia and the Yukon. We are All About Choice: we offer current sexual and reproductive health care, information, and education from a feminist, pro-choice*, sex positive perspective. Options mission is to champion and celebrate the sexual health of all people in BC by supporting, providing, and promoting inclusive and accessible health care and education.

Sher Vancouver

Sher Vancouver is a non-profit society for LGBTQ+ South Asians and their friends, families and allies in Metro Vancouver, B.C. Sher Vancouver hopes to reduce the alienation and discrimination of people dealing with sexuality, gender and coming-out issues by providing counselling, peer support, education and outreach services.

Love Intersections

Love Intersections is a media arts collective made up of queer artists of colour dedicated to using collaborative art making and relational storytelling to address systemic racism in our communities. They produce intersectional and intergenerational stories from underrepresented communities of colour – centering the invisible, the spiritual, the metaphysical and the imaginary.

YouthCO

YouthCO is an organization of youth leaders within the HIV and Hep C movements. Their staff, volunteers, and Board members are all youth! Throughout HIV and Hep C work, they work to be accountable to values, and take a peer approach to conversations about sexual health, harm reduction, and stigma. 

Vancouver Frontrunners

Vancouver Frontrunners provides a safe and friendly environment for the LGBTQ2+ community and their friends to enjoy running and walking. With approximately 150 members, Vancouver Frontrunners (VFR) is one of the largest running and walking clubs in British Columbia. They are also one of the oldest LGBT sporting clubs in Vancouver and are members of International Front Runners, an affiliation of LGBT walking and running clubs throughout the world.

Vancouver Pride Society

Vancouver Pride Society strives to produce inclusive, celebratory events, and advocacy for LGBTQAI2S+ communities through an intersectional lens. They strive to produce events that reflect the pride the LGBTQAI2S+ community has in itself, by strengthening the sense of community, and contributing to the vibrancy, health and overall well-being of all persons in the community.

Out in Schools

Out In Schools engages youth through film in the promotion of safer and more diverse learning environments, free from homophobia, transphobia, and bullying.

QMUNITY – BC’s Queer Resource Centre

QMUNITY is a non-profit organization based in Vancouver, BC that works to improve queer and trans lives. They provide a safer space for LGBTQ/2S people and their allies to fully self-express while feeling welcome and included. QMUNITY is what happens when queer, trans, and Two Spirit folks looking for a sense of community come together to meet, guide, and support each other.

Egale Canada Human Rights Trust

Founded in 1995, Egale Canada Human Rights Trust is Canada’s only national charity promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans (LGBT) human rights through research, education and community engagement. 

Trans Care BC

The Trans Care BC program aims to enhance the coordination of trans health services and supports across the province, bringing gender-affirming care closer to home wherever possible.

My Sex Ed

My Sex Ed designs resources and facilitates workshops about sexual health education for a variety of audiences, including teachers, parents, students, and other stakeholders. My Sex Ed is run by Carly Basian, a leading Ontario curriculum expert in sexual health education.

SExT: Sex Education by Theatre

SExT was created by PhD candidate Shira Taylor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. As an artist and advocate for social justice in public health, Shira wanted to create a program to use theatre as a platform to empower youth to reflect on, challenge, and communicate their realities on issues related to sex education in a way that celebrates diverse identities.

Queer Events

Queer Events is a local LGBT2Q+ organization committed to working towards a strong, inclusive & accessible Queer community. Creating opportunities to connect through events, programs & initiatives to contribute through education & advocacy to a more inclusive, diverse and welcoming queer community.

LGBTQ Families Speak Out

At the heart of this website is the LGBTQ Families Speak Out video interview study designed and conducted by a research team from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. The goal of the study was to video interview LGBTQ families across Ontario about their children’s experiences in school and share findings from these interviews with teachers, community educators and other LGBTQ families.

OUTSaskatoon

OUTSaskatoon centre serves all genders and sexual orientations, no matter where the individual falls. Programs arise out of the needs expressed by the people who access the centre. Their programming addresses the underlying issues which affect the health and welfare of the community by countering heterosexism, homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia.

LGBT YouthLine

LGBT YouthLine is a Queer, Trans, Two-Spirit* youth-led organization that affirms and supports the experiences of youth (29 and under) across Ontario. They do this by providing anonymous peer support and referrals; training youth to provide support to other youth; and providing resources so youth can make informed decisions.

SHORE Centre

SHORE Centre imagines a community that values sexual health and reproductive freedom as essential for people to live their best lives. SHORE Centre offers exceptional and inclusive sexual and reproductive health services in our community that uphold the dignity of everyone.

The Tegan and Sara Foundation

The Tegan and Sara Foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ women and girls. This mission is founded on a commitment to feminism and racial, social and gender justice. This work is critically important because LGBTQ+ women and girls face greater socioeconomic and health disadvantages compared to their male, heterosexual & cisgender counterparts.

Rainbow Railroad

Rainbow Railroad believes that governments around the globe should enact and enforce laws and policies that protect LGBTQI individuals and enable them to live in freedom and safety in their own country. However, until that day arrives, our organization is focused on providing solutions for LGBTQI people who need immediate assistance because they are facing a serious threat to their lives and safety.

Glad Day Bookshop

Glad Day Bookshop is the first queer-focused Canadian bookstore, and the oldest queer bookstore worldwide. Serving the LGBTQ community since 1970, we offer the widest possible selection of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, two-spirit, and queer literature.

GLAAD rewrites the script for LGBTQ acceptance. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change. GLAAD protects all that has been accomplished and creates a world where everyone can live the life they love.

Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN)

The leading national US-based education organization focused on ensuring safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ students to grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment. GLSEN believes that every student has the right to a safe, supportive, and LGBTQ-inclusive K-12 education.

Welcoming Schools

HRC Foundation’s Welcoming Schools is the most comprehensive bias-based bullying prevention program in the US to provide LGBTQ and gender inclusive professional development training, lesson plans, booklists and resources specifically designed for educators and youth-serving professionals. Their program uses an intersectional, anti-racist lens dedicated to actionable policies and practices. 

AMAZE

AMAZE takes the awkward out of sex ed. Real info in fun, animated videos that give you all the answers you actually want to know about sex, your body and relationships. AMAZE harnesses the power of digital media to provide young adolescents around the globe with medically accurate, age-appropriate, affirming, and honest sex education they can access directly online. 

Gender Spectrum

Gender Spectrum works to create gender sensitive and inclusive environments for all children and teens. They focus on creating gender-inclusive spaces throughout the primary domains of all children’s lives and work with professionals, including educators, social service workers, faith leaders, medical and mental health professionals, government and business leaders and others who need support in navigating rapidly changing gender understandings.

ILGA World

ILGA World – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association – is a worldwide federation of more than 1,600 organisations from over 150 countries and territories campaigning for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex human rights. They support LGBTI civil society worldwide through advocacy and research projects and give grassroots movements a voice within international organisations.

SIECUS

SIECUS advances sex education through advocacy, policy and coalition building. SIECUS envisions an equitable nation where all people receive sex education, are affirmed in their identities, and have power to make decisions about their own health, pleasure, and wholeness.

Trans Lifeline

Trans Lifeline provides trans peer support for our community that’s been divested from police since day one. We’re run by and for trans people. Trans Lifeline connects trans people to the community support and resources we need to survive and thrive.

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.

The Body Is Not An Apology

The Body Is Not An Apology is an international movement committed to cultivating global Radical Self Love and Body Empowerment. Through information dissemination, personal and social transformation projects and community building, The Body is Not An Apology fosters global, radical, unapologetic self love which translates to radical human love and action in service toward a more just, equitable and compassionate world.

Black Girl Dangerous (BGD)

Black Girl Dangerous is a reader-funded, non-profit project. BGD is the brainchild of award-winning writer Mia McKenzie. What started out as a scream of anguish has evolved into a multi-faceted forum for expression. BGD with its focus on social justice seeks to, in as many ways as possible, amplify the voices, experiences and expressions of queer and trans people of color.

Flamingo Rampant

Flamingo Rampant is producing feminist, racially-diverse, LGBTQ positive children’s books, in an effort to bring visibility and positivity to the reading landscape of children everywhere. They make books kids love that love them right back, bedtime stories for beautiful dreams, and books that make kids of all kinds say with pride: that kid’s just like me!
